Megan! Christian! Andrew! Francine! Theresa! What will the Tulane glass department conjure from their crucible of creativity? Come see “Fluid Perspectives: Contemporary Glass Sculpture” and you will find out!

We attended a wonderful show and absorbed a plethora of interesting objects, images and concepts!

This is the work of Christian Stock! My long time artist friend to whom I owe a debt of gratitude for organizing this great show! He is the senior professor of practice in glass, at Tulane University. He keeps the furnaces stoked and leads by example, a fusion of technique and imagination. Check out his instagram!

Terra-firma! Well actually a lot of this southern Louisiana terra-firma is not firm at all, and much of the work of Francine Judd Stock seems to pull from the interplay of these low lying coastal dynamics. I see maps, particles, currents and pathways. She is a glass artist and digital media coordinator at Tulane University, her images are concise and broadly informed. Check out her instagram!

Andrew Ledford, man of multiple materials and techniques. Glass tendrils allude to science fiction themes. Perhaps alternate biological realities from faraway planets? How am I supposed to know? And maybe the not knowing, it the crux of the matter… (in the arts) He is a long time teaching assistant at the Tulane glass studio, imparting his knowledge and technique of this medium.

All the way from Pacific Northwest glass country! Theresa Batty, an accomplished glass artist from Seattle Washington, has been with us in Nola while earning a masters degree at Tulane. Soon she will be paddling her glass canoe back upstream to begin the next chapter of her creative journey! She’s doing something at Pilchuck Glass school! (got to ask her more about that… check back!)
